FUNDAMENTALS REGIMEN

New Threads’ Fundamentals Regimen is physical theatre training that utilizes techniques from Viewpoints, biomechanics, and Grotowski to provide a shared theatrical vocabulary for participants.

Fundamentals is a way for our company to grow together as artists, but also to invite others into our laboratory. Our hope is that Fundamentals Regimen becomes foundational to the ethos of our company: collaborative, rigorous, and experimental.

DEVISED THEATRE WORKSHOPs

New Threads Theatre Company brings together members and friends of the company to create new devised theatre pieces over the period of one weekend.

Our last Devised Theatre Workshop took place before the pandemic. The company met on July 26, 2019 with a professional specialist in the area of devised theatre, Professor Joe Frost (Belhaven University). Joe led the company in understanding the building blocks of devising new theatre pieces through improvisational exercises. The company spent the next 48 hours in intense collaboration creating several new pieces from scratch. The final performance was a 30-minute work that was the culmination of the company’s hard work and inventive spirit which was performed for an invited audience Sunday July 28th at 7:00pm.

The goal of this Devised Collaboration Weekend is twofold: first to introduce New Threads Theatre Company to the tools and ideas that can help us create devised theatre collaborations in the future (an area of theatre that we are interested in exploring), and second, this intensive (48 hours lock-in style) weekend helped to build a sense of ensemble and community between the company members and the friends of the company that we have harnessed as we move into the next phase of the life of New Threads Theatre Company.
